Saints running back Alvin Kamara could be eligible to play in New Orleans’ Wild Card round matchup against the Chicago Bears Sunday as it’s the earliest he could return form the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
Saints coach Sean Payton however didn’t confirm whether or not Kamara or any of the Saints five other players on the COVID list would suit up for the playoff matchup.
“We’ll see,” he said when asked if any player would play without being able to practice because of their COVID-19 related status. “I think it would depend on the player and the situation. But I mean a lot of that will be just our decision based on where we think we are with the week, the player. And we gotta be smart.”
Kamara was placed on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday after reportedly testing positive for the coronavirus. Due to close contact with the Pro Bowler, running backs Latavius Murray, Dwayne Washington and fullback Michael Burton were also added to the list.
Saints defensive backs C.J. Gardner-Johnson and D.J. Swearinger were also placed on the COVID-19 list last week.
