New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick asked a New Orleans City Council Committee today to approve moving NOPD operations from the current headquarters on Broad Street to a high rise across the street from the Superdome.
The chief said problems at their long-time HQ go beyond roof leaks, malfunctioning elevators, and broken A/C.
Kirkpatrick said the rats are getting into the evidence room and eating drugs that officers have seized.
"The rats are eating our marijuana," she told the panel. "They're all high."
She listed numerous other problems, too.
"It's a building that has quite a bit of mold in it from during back in the Katrina days," she told WWL-TV. "It is a challenged building."
The panel approved the move to 1615 Poydras Street and sent the issue to the full council.
The lease on two floors of the building would run ten years for a total $7.6 million.
