With franchise locations all across the country along some of the most frequented interstates and roadways, the gas station/convenience megastore Buc-ee’s has built a reputation as a favorite stop for many a road trip.
But recently, an Ohio couple says they ran afoul of one of the franchise’s policies and were forced to leave without any of their chosen purchases.
Dawn and Richard Thompson have been full-time truckers since selling their home in Liberty City, Ohio, and now live out of their semi-truck, the pair told MySanAntonio.com.
“We were seriously just taking in the atmosphere,” Dawn said. “They approached us and asked my husband if it was his truck. ‘You are not allowed to purchase anything here, you have to leave now,’ and I was still holding my items that they were telling me I'm not allowed to buy.”
Buc-ee’s locations have signs posted that read, “NO 18-wheelers,” and while the policy has drawn criticism, it is also not a secret.
The company says their parking lots are not equipped for large trucks, hence the regulation.
