Violent criminals in New Orleans are shooting and killing more women than anytime in the past 27 years.
Metro Crime Commission President Rafael Goyeneche says some of the shooters are bragging about it online.
"We are seeing on social media that the shooters are boasting of the fact that if they can't get their intended target, they'll take out the girlfriend of their intended target, if need be, to send the message."
He tells WWL's Tommy Tucker the killers are making their intentions clear to the person they really want dead.
"They're doing that to send a message."
Goyenche adds the criminals feel it wins them some sort of street cred.
"They are using this in some perverted way as a status type of accomplishment."
The head of the MCC says he is confident that NOPD is combing social media to try and use the posts to identify and catch the killers.
More than a dozen women have been murdered in New Orleans this year. City Councilwoman Helena Moreno said that number hasn’t been this high since 1996, when 70 thousand more women lived in city.
