As lagging vaccination rates have turned Louisiana into one of the nation’s hottest COVID hot-spots, retired Lieutenant General Russel Honore has recorded a message for those still on the fence about getting the shot.
“Look, if you eat boudin balls and hot dogs, and you trust that, you can take this shot,” Honore says in a video posted on Twitter by the Bring Back Louisiana Sleeves Up campaign. “This shot has been proven. It’s based on science.”
Honore describes his relationship with COVID as “one of despair” in the clip as he appeals to the unvaccinated residents of the state.
“What are you waiting for?” he asked. “Look at where we were last year, with hundreds of people - some days 4,000 people dying, many of them in nursing homes - the elderly. Now that we have the shot, there’s hardly anyone dying in nursing homes anymore from COVID. It proves it works!”
“Let’s bring Louisiana back,” Honore says as the clip ends. “Please get the shot.”
Honore is remembered fondly in the state for his role coordinating military aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
