Good news for most Jefferson Parish residents when it comes to festering, rotting trash. Waste Connection, the residential waste disposal company for the parish, says it is adding trucks and picking up not just binned trash, but bags left on the curb, too.

"Are you in the mode of only, when you go up to a house, you're just picking up the can, or you're picking up the can as well as the bags on the side of the can, now?" asked Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng at Wednesday's parish council meeting.

"We're picking up the can, and the bags along with the can as of tomorrow," said Clay Richardson of Waste Connections. "Now, like, we're running extra trucks, picking up just bags."

Richardson said that regular garbage trucks will still empty just trash cans, with the additional crews making passes to pick up the bags later.

One region of the parish where the parish is still having trouble getting the trash collected is Barataria. During the council meeting, it was revealed that the temporary bridge across the bayou to the community does not accommodate garbage trucks.
