Louisiana leaders, officials and politicians honor and remember the late Edwin Edwards.

The 93-year-old former state governor died Monday after placing himself in home hospice care last week.

In a statement released on social media, current Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said, “Few people have made such an indelible mark on our state as Governor Edwin Edwards.”

“Donna and I send our deepest condolences to his wife, Trina, family and all who were blessed to call him a friend and ask everyone to join us in praying for God to comfort them during this difficult time.”

Senator John Kennedy says, “Becky and I are praying for former governor Edwin Edwards’s family during their time of deep loss. He lived a full life, and our hearts go out to his loved ones.”

In step with Governor John Bel Edwards’ state order, officials in St. Charles Parish ordered their parish government buildings to lower all flags to half-staff to respect the passing Edwin Edwards. The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment.
