The New Orleans City Council made official Thursday the Mardi Gras parade season for 2023.
The council's vote outlines the dates and times of parades, starting Friday, February 10 and ending Tuesday, February 21.
The council also adopted an amendment relative to each parade's route and starting point. The amendment leaves those details to the New Orleans Police Department.
Work continues to finalize plans to have law enforcement officer from outside New Orleans come in and reinforce the NOPD, who is down to fewer than 930 police officers. Without additional help, parades would have to roll on routes shortened by dozens of blocks.
The Mardi Gras Advisory Council on Thursday put out a statement citing "significant progress" in obtaining that help.
