An 18-year-old man is being held as a suspect in the February 1 carjacking that left a New Orleans woman critically injured.
The New Orleans Police Department Violent Offenders Warrant Squad and U.S. Marshals deputies found and arrested Tyrese Harris earlier today.
Harris is suspected in the February 1 incident that sent Kelleye Rhein to the ICU with head and neck injuries. Rhein was filling up at the Costco gas station on S. Carrollton Ave. off of I-10 when Harris, according to police, jumped into the driver's seat of her car and started to drive away. Rhein was dragged before falling violently to the ground, hitting her head on the pavement.
Rhein has since been released from the hospital.
"Through investigation, NOPD Second District detectives developed and positively identified Harris as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on a charge of principle to simple carjacking," said police in a statement.
