Second suspect in Frickey murder found competent to stand trial

Mar’Qel Curtis, a 16-year-old girl, has been found competent to stand trial for her role in the fatal carjacking of New Orleans resident Linda Frickey.

Frickey, 72, was died after she was carjacked and pulled from her car by carjackers.

She was entangled in a seat belt and dragged by her car for a city block in Mid-City during which, her arm was severed during the incident.

Earlier this week, Lenyra Theophile was found incompetent to stand trial. She has been placed in a mental health facility for 60-days.

Being found incompetent means Theophile is unable to assist her attorney’s in her defense.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney will try all four suspects in the case as adults.  They face life in prison if found guilty.

All four are being held on one-million dollars bail.  A judge in August denied bail reductions for the suspects, they have been held in jail since.
