Cops are on the scene of what appears to be a triple homicide in New Orleans. It happened at a home across the street from the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

"The NOPD is investigating a triple homicide," Director of Communications Gary Scheets said in a notification. "Around 9:18 a.m. after responding to a wellness check in the 1700 block of Gentilly Boulevard, three victims were pronounced deceased inside the location."

He did not release any further information.

This marks the second, third and fourth homicides of the new year in New Orleans; just three days into the year.

In 2022, the city averaged a murder every 32 hours.  The Metro Crime Commission said the city got the dubious distinction of being the Murder Capital of America, with the most homicides per capital in the country.
