Congressman Steve Scalise of Metairie has been reelected as the House Republican Whip.

"I am honored to have the continued confidence and support of my colleagues to serve another term as the Republican Whip," Scalise announced this afternoon. "For these past six years it has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve as the Whip. Our Republican conference is stronger and more unified than ever, and I am energized to work with this large and diverse new freshman class to continue the fight for our shared conservative values."

Scalise became the Republican Whip in 2014, when the party had a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, making him the third-most powerful member of the House. As minority whip, Scalise is the second-most powerful Republican, behind Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California.
