New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno says she is getting kind of tired of hearing that it is "too expensive" to make meaningful repairs to its water mains.

Moreno told WWL's Newell Normand on Tuesday afternoon that the fact is, no one has ever bothered to find out what that dollar amount is.

"The first response I always get is that it's expensive," the mayor said. "I'm like, 'Okay! Well, what are the solutions, and then how much does it specifically cost?' And that's when I found out that there's been no real analysis on this."

The mayor says the city will never be able to get a handle on the problem without knowing what the real cost of fixing it is.

"I'm now having these cost analyses run, and what does it look like, and if it's $40 million, then let's go find the $40 million somewhere," she said.
