OPINION: Scoot: Five mothers murdered in five weeks in New Orleans

A 5th mother in 5 weeks has been shot and killed in New Orleans. The frequency is alarming. What makes the shootings of these mothers even more horrific is that they occurred with young children in view of the shootings.

Recently, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said that some women involve themselves with a criminal element and put themselves in a position to be the targets of shootings.  After a backlash, Cantrell apologized, but she was right.  Women who are directly involved in criminal activity or are dating criminals put themselves - and their children in danger.
