NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two innocent bystanders by stray bullets in Crown Heights last night.

An 11-year-old boy was shot in the chest and a man was shot in the knee.

This happened around 7 p.m. Thursday on a block of Schenectady Avenue filled with shops.

The shooter fired into a group of people on the sidewalk with multiple rounds.

Witnesses recall the boy in shock, with his mother screaming.

"Why would you shoot him, you shot him, you shot my son, you shot him," a witness recalled her saying.

The intended target was unscathed.

The victims are the eighth and ninth people hit by stray bullets in June.

Deputy Chief Michael Kemper says the department and community are disturbed by the violence.

"We already have received multiple phone calls and had multiple conversations with community members who are outraged about what happened here," he said.

The victims are expected to recover.

A person of interest is being questioned by police.
