18 injured in Bronx fire

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —Eighteen people were injured this morning when a house caught fire in the Williamsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx.

The two alarm fire broke out just after 6:00 a.m. in a house on Holland Avenue.

Two victims were critically injured, while seven others are in serious condition.

The critically injured victims were rushed to Jacobi Hospital.

One of the injured was a firefighter and another was a member of the NYPD.

A neighbor said the fire started in the basement and soon engulged the three-story building.

Witnesses say people were jumping out of windows and landing on the hood of a car below.

The neighbor said one of the jumpers was an elderly woman, "When I came out and looked up, she was coming down and she hit the car."

There is no word yet on the fire’s cause.
