NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A manhole exploded near Times Square Thursday afternoon, sending plumes of steam in the air and injuring two workers from a construction site near the explosion.
EMS evaluated the men at the scene and they were reportedly transported to a hospital. One of the workers is in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries. The other worker suffered minor injuries.
It was unclear if there were other injuries.
Stretchers were also at the scene.
"Due to @FDNY activity, expect traffic delays, road closures and a heavy presence of emergency personnel at West 47th Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan," the city's Office of Emergency Management tweeted. "Consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time."
Avoid 47th between 6th and 7th. Smoky and looks like there was an incident. Already seen several stretchers with injured. 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/pfQOTb9Dfk
