NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two Long Island middle school teachers have been fired after displaying pictures of not one, but two nooses in their classroom.

A third teacher with tenure was suspended with pay, NBC News reported.

The photos were part of a larger display that said "back to school necklaces." The words #yes and "ha ha" also appeared with the noose photos.

The images were apparently on display for months at Roosevelt Middle School.

In a school that includes 45 percent black students and 55 percent Latino students, parents said the images go beyond insensitive and that the teachers involved should be terminated.

In February, the school district issued a statement that said, "appropriate action was taken" against those involved. The statement went on to say, "The Board of Education has zero tolerance for the display of racially offensive images."

On Tuesday night, the school district voted unanimously to fire the teachers. They had been employed with the district for two to three years.
