NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two men were killed minutes apart in Bronx shootings early Saturday morning, one of them when a gunman opened fire on a group, police said, as the city continues to deal with a spike in gun violence this summer.
The group was gathered on Park Avenue at the Jackson Houses in Mott Haven around 1:35 a.m. when a gunman came up and started shooting, according to police.
A 23-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 26-year-old man was shot in the groin and was in stable condition at Lincoln Hospital.
Citizen App video shows a heavy police presence at the scene after the shooting.
Police said it was unclear if the victims were the intended targets. No arrests have been made.
Minutes later around 1:45 a.m., a 25-year-old man was found shot in the torso on E. 176 Street, near Anthony Avenue, in the Mt. Hope section, police said.
The man was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified. Police said no arrests have been made in the shooting.
Shootings were also reported in Manhattan and Brooklyn overnight, leaving several more men wounded.
Police said a 32-year-old man was shot in the leg near E. 4th Street and Avenue C in Alphabet City sometime overnight. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
A 32-year-old man was also shot in the arm and leg on Park Avenue near the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 9:30 p.m. Friday. He was hospitalized in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
A 28-year-old man was shot in the thigh on Miller Avenue, near New Lots Avenue, in East New York around 12:40 a.m. Police said he was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
