NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Twenty students at Pace University's Pleasantville campus in Westchester have tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said.
After four students at the campus tested positive Monday, the school tested more than 600 members of the community and found another 16 students were positive, according to a statement from Jerry McKinstry, the university's director of public affairs in Westchester.
The positive students have been isolated and their contacts are quarantining, and the school has informed the Westchester County Department of Health.
Of the 20 students, 18 live at Alumni Hall and the county is requiring students who live at the hall to quarantine for 14 days. Any students who left the hall will also be required to self-quarantine at home for at least 14 days.
McKinstry said additional testing will be conducted in the coming week.
"While this news is obviously unwelcome, we were prepared for it, and have taken actions to protect our students and the community," McKinstry said. "We are proud of the students who responsibly reported their symptoms and got tested, and we're pleased that the systems in place worked to help us confront this outbreak so quickly."
McKinstry said the school is continuing "rigorous disinfecting and cleaning of our facilities" and is working with the Westchester County Department of Health to prevent any further spread.
