Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage told NJ.com that 22 residents of the Elizabeth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center have died in recent weeks.

Of those resident deaths, at least 12 had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Bollwage said another 16 residents and 8 staff members have tested positive.

The nursing home has stopped accepting new admissions.

The death toll from the virus in New Jersey climbed 23% overnight Monday, from about 1,000 people to 1,232, Gov. Phil Murphy said.
