Pedestrian struck in SoHo

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Four pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles on New York City streets in a 13-hour span Thursday and Friday—and six have been struck and killed since Wednesday, authorities say.

The latest collision was on Friday morning. Police say a 57-year-old man was struck by three cars in Park Slope.

The man was crossing Third Avenue at Seventh Street when he was hit shortly after 6 a.m., police said.

Three cars ended up striking the man, according to police, who said all of the drivers stayed at the scene and no charges have been filed.

The man was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital.

About 90 minutes earlier, a man was hit by a private sanitation truck at 49th Street and Tenth Avenue in Hell's Kitchen.

Police tell 1010 WINS that he was struck at 4:45 a.m. Friday while he was in a crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sanitation worker behind the wheel of the truck, 58-year-old Robert Alford of Plainfield, New Jersey, stayed at the scene.

Alford was charged Friday with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

The deadly collisions came just hours after two pedestrians were fatally struck by box trucks an hour apart on Thursday afternoon in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

A 26-year-old woman was killed in SoHo after being struck by a box truck in the southern part of the neighborhood near Broadway and Howard Street, just before 5 p.m.

EMS told 1010 WINS that the victim—whose identity has not yet been released—was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim—identified as 85-year-old Brendan Gill—was taken to NYU Langone in traumatic arrest, then pronounced dead.

The 24-year-old driver stayed on the scene. Police said there does not appear to be any criminality.

On Wednesday, 75-year-old Xue You was crossing the street near 52nd Street and Eighth Avenue in Sunset Park when she was struck and killed, police say.

Ilda Gjona was charged in You's death. The 21-year-old faces a charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian, according to police.

Also on Wednesday, 67-year-old Zhisheng Lin was struck and killed by a Volkswagen Jetta in Flushing, Queens.

Police said Lin was hit near Sanford Avenue and Main Street by a 69-year-old driver who was trying to turn into a parking garage.

He died at New York Presbyterian Hospital–Queens.

The driver of the Jetta has not been charged, police said.
