NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —Six people, including four children, were killed in a fire at a NYCHA building in Harlem Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the fire started at approximately 1:40 a.m. on the fifth floor of the Frederick Samuels Houses on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.

The six dead include an adult woman, and her children ranging in ages betwee 3 and 11, and another adult male. Police say the deceased were dead at the scene.

Mayor de Blasio said the search for answers about why no smoke detectors were heard would continue, "We want to investigate that very question. And as you heard form the chair, there had been a smoke alarm installed, it had been tested this January. The whole idea, the whole reason for the fire department investigation is to understand everything that happened."

The detectors were battery operated and not hard-wired to the electrical panel.
