NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner John Sanders is stepping down, he told employees Tuesday, as the agency struggles to deal with the increase in the number of undocumented migrants crossing the southern border.
Sanders said, "Although I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful, I can unequivocally say that helping support the amazing men and women of CBP has been the most fulfilling and satisfying opportunity of my career," Sander writes.
Sanders originally took up the role after the previous head Kevin McAleenan stepped up as acting Department of Homeland Secretary after Kirstjen Nielsen was forced out in the spring.
His resignation takes effect July 5.
