NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Porn star Ron Jeremy is on a crusade to save a tree at his childhood home in Queens.
Jeremy took to Twitter Saturday asking for help to preserve the 67-year-old tree in front of his childhood home on Bell Boulevard in Bayside. He tweeted a photo of himself with his arms wrapped around the tree.
The city Parks Department is reportedly set to tear down the tree, which is rotting and poses a hazard, according to neighbors.
But Jeremy tells 1010 WINS that he’s willing to spend his own money to save it.
“I want to keep this tree going,” he said. “I used to climb it when I was a little boy, throw acorns on people. It was a very, very big tree. It was the biggest tree on the whole block.”
Jeremy said his dad planted the tree "the day I was popping out of my mom."
The Parks Deparment told 1010 WINS they don’t usually remove trees unless they’re in poor health or pose a safety hazard. They said they'll look into the specifics of the case.
“We appreciate Mr. Jeremy’s personal attachment to the tree in front of his childhood home," the department said in a statement to 1010 WINS. "Our city’s street trees are not just environmental assets, they can also connect us to our roots, reminding us of the people and places we love."
If the tree can’t be saved, neighbors promised to save a piece of it for Jeremy.
