NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Amtrak announced Saturday that it will run on a Saturday schedule on weekdays because of decreased demand amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Weekday service on the Northeast Corridor, which runs through New York, will be on a Saturday schedule between March 16 and March 26, Amtrak said.

Frequent service will be available on Acela and Northeast Regional trains between Boston, New York, Washington, and Virginia.

Keystone Service will also be operating on a Saturday schedule on a daily basis starting March 16, with no service to the Ardmore Station, Amtrak said.

Amtrak's announcement comes a week after the rail company said it was canceling its nonstop Acela service between New York and Washington through May 26.

In addition to suspending nonstop Acela service, Amtrak said it's doing away with change fees on reservations made through April 30, 2020.
