NEW YORK (1010 WINS) U.S. Customs and Border Protection say agents seized roughly a million pounds of pork smuggled in from China, where there's an ongoing outbreak of African swine fever.

At a news conference Friday, officials announced the seizure of more than 50 shipping containers and showed off three rooms filled with illegal pork products.

The pork was found at the Port of New York and New Jersey in Newark.

The bust is part of the effort to stop African swine fever, which has killed more than a million pigs in China.

The disease does not affect humans, but it could cause millions in damage to U.S. livestock if it infected animals here.

The bust comes just a few weeks after a gigantic cocaine seizure at the port.
