LAS VEGAS (1010 WINS) -- Julia Ruth Stevens, the last surviving daughter of Babe Ruth, died Saturday morning in Henderson, Nevada. Stevens was 102.
Stevens was born in Athens, Georgia in 1916, to Claire and Frank Hodgson, after they separated Claire married Babe Ruth and he adopted Julia.
Her family shared a message in a post to the Babe Ruth Central facebook page that read in part, "Until the very end, she was very proud to call him "Daddy" and she particularly loved recalling events from 1934 when she went on a "round the world" tour with her parents." The post also said, "Julia always said she loved growing up in New York during this time and there was no place she would rather have been."
Julia Ruth Stevens was interview by Author Jerry Amernic for his book about the Babe, she said he was always close to his fans they would say, "Hi ya, Babe." It was just like saying hi to a friend.
