NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The competition to be Joe Biden's running mate is fierce.

"There are a number of sharp, thoughtful, and, yes, ambitious women up to the task of working alongside him every day to win this race and unite our country," Biden for President campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon wrote in a fundraising letter emailed Monday to supporters.

She continued, "Our job over the next 92 days is to do everything we can to support them as they make the case to folks all across the country for their vision of empathy, equality, and fulfilling the promise of America for everyone."

Dillon writes that she understands "interest in who Joe Biden will choose as his running mate is nearing its peak" as the Democratic National Convention approaches, but she "can't say when exactly he'll announce (or who he'll pick)."

Last week Biden said he would choose his pick this week, but a subsequent report said he would come to a decision by next week.

Names being tossed around as possible running mates include Sen. Kamala Harris of New York, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Rep. Val Demings of Florida, Rep. Karen Bass of California, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
