NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg has purchased a 60-second Super Bowl ad spot that will likely run him at least $10 million, according to The New York Times.

After Bloomberg's ad was announced, Politico reports that President Donald Trump is also spending $10 million to advertise at the Super Bowl.

Bloomberg's campaign told The Times that the candidate had purchased the ad at "market rate", which Variety reports is more than $5 million for a 30-second ad. The campaign said the spot would be a never-before-seen commercial.

“The biggest point is getting under Trump’s skin,” Michael Frazier, a spokesman for the Bloomberg campaign, told The Times.

The former New York City major officially entered the presidential race in November. Even before he initially announced, Bloomberg, 77, spent $31 million in ads for one week.

The Times reports that Bloomberg has spent nearly $170 million on ads so far, and has 800 staff members on his campaign, twice that of Democratic rival Joe Biden.
