NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Bronx Councilman Fernando Cabrera announced Friday that his son has the coronavirus.

“My son Joshua Cabrera was diagnosed with the coronavirus,” Cabrera posted on his personal Facebook page.

“I am sharing this update, to those who were at New Life Church Sunday, so you can act accordingly to the advice given by the medical field and State officials. Please keep him in your prayers!” he continued.

On Friday, Council Speaker Corey Johnson called on the city to temporarily close public schools amid the outbreak.

Speaking on 1010 WINS Friday morning, Johnson said the city could close the schools for two weeks and then see where things stand at the end of those two weeks, possibly closing for a third week after that if necessary.

“I think that life is going to have to change for some period of time to better control this outbreak,” Johnson said. “This is no longer business as usual. It’s not time to panic, but it is time to act.”
