NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A bicyclist was fatally struck in the Bronx on Thursday after attempting to pass in between two vehicles, officials said.
The collision occurred just before 5 p.m., near East 138 Street and Park Avenue in the Mott Haven section.
Officers called to a crash between a box truck and a cyclist discovered 38-year-old Jose Luis Estudillo Garcia with severe trauma to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Initial investigations determined that a man driving a 1999 box truck was traveling north on Park Avenue and he slowed down behind a double-parked vehicle.
As the box truck driver attempted to drive around the parked vehicle, Garcia tried to pass between the vehicles on his bicycle, authorities said.
He lost control and fell onto the street where he was struck by the rear passenger wheels of the box truck, according to police.
The truck driver remained at the scene.
