NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Bronx resident found himself in a surprisingly slippery situation Friday morning, according to the NYPD.

And the surprise was in their mailbox -- but it was far from a letter or package: It was an 8-FOOT-LONG COLOMBIAN RED TAIL BOA CONSTRICTOR, NYPD Det. Jose Otero told 1010 WINS. (The NYPD initially tweeted it was a python.)

The reptile was taken by police to the Animal Care Centers on NYC.

"#HappeningNow A #Bronx resident left his house this morning to find this unexpected ssssssneaky visitor by his mailbox. #ESU was quick to respond and Detective Otero took control of the 8 foot python. The snake is being delivered to the #NYCACCC Great job ESU Truck 3," NYPD Chief of Special Operations  Chief Harry J. Wedin tweeted.
