NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The city council is expected to pass a package of animal welfare bills, including a bill that would ban the sale of foie gras.
The bill would bar the sale of the fatty duck or goose liver at restaurants, grocery stores or shops.
The bill would penalize violators with a $1,000 fine and up to one year in jail.
California banned foie gras in 2012.
Other bills expected to pass on Wednesday include bills prohibiting carriage horses from working in temperatures above 90 degrees and a ban on the sale, capture or possession of pigeons.
