Conn. to extend eviction freeze for renters until Oct. 1, Lamont says

HARTFORD, C.T. (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut will extend its eviction freeze for renters until Oct. 1, Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday.

The state's eviction freeze was set to expire this coming Saturday, Aug. 22, but Lamont during his briefing Thursday afternoon said the state would "extend that out until Oct. 1."

"We still have an incredibly high unemployment rate in the state and in this country," he explained. "We're also increasing the rent relief that we're going to provide for landlords, so they can negotiate with the tenants there."

The governor also said all of Connecticut's counties are on track to reopen their schools, based on their current COVID-19 metrics.

Connecticut reported one new COVID-19 death and 118 new cases on Thursday, bringing its death toll to 4,458 and its case total to 51,432. Its positivity rate currently stands at 0.95 percent.

As of Wednesday night, 47 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, down by two from Tuesday.
