NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Connecticut woman and her son appeared in court Monday to be arraigned following their arrest Friday on manslaughter and other and charges in connection with man's wife.

Hector L. Lopez, 43, and Mercedes Martinez, 60, were each charged with first-degree manslaughter, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, tampering with evidence and second-degree hindering prosecution, police said. Lopez was also charged with two counts of criminal attempt to tamper with a witness.

Olga "Iris" Lopez was found unconscious last November in her Stamford, Conn., apartment, which she shared with her husband and mother-in-law, after police responded to a call of a possible overdose.

Officials say Martinez and her son were aware of the victim's condition and failed to provide emergency care.

At Monday's hearing, the judge kept the bond at $1 million each. When the judge announced that, the family of Olga Lopez "softly" cheered, according to News 12 Connecticut reporter Marissa Alter.

Member of the victim's family wore shirts with a photo of Olga Lopez on it. They also wore purple ribbons, according to Alter.

Iris Lopez had blunt force trauma to the head which caused a brain bleed, police said, citing doctors. They believe if are had gotten medical attention when she first needed it, she would’ve survived.
