HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont reported three new COVID-19 deaths on Monday, the lowest daily death toll the state has recorded since the pandemic began.

A total of 45,235 people in the state have now tested positive for the virus, and 4,204 have died, Lamont said during his daily briefing on Monday.

"We had three fatalities. Three too many, but three is the least we've had since the start of the pandemic," he said.

The percentage of COVID-19 tests coming back positive continues to hover around 2 percent, placing Connecticut "in the best five or six states in the country in terms of positivity rate," Lamont said.

"And that tells us we're ready to do our next phase of the reopening on Wednesday," he added.

Phase II of Connecticut's reopening is set to begin this coming Wednesday, June 17. During his briefing, Lamont noted that several states that have reopened have experienced COVID-19 flare-ups.

"This is no victory lap. This is no 'Mission Accomplished,'" he said. "This is a way to say, 'Keep up the good work.' We've got a long way to go."

"I don't want (flare-ups) happening in Connecticut, so I appreciate all of you wearing masks as necessary," he added.
