HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut reported 544 new COVID-19 cases on Friday — a steep increase from its daily numbers this past week — but the majority of the new cases were backlogged ones, Gov. Ned Lamont said Friday.
An out-of-state lab "provided the state with previously unreported data going back to mid-May on cases involving CT residents," Lamont tweeted Friday afternoon.
Of the approximately 12,000 COVID-19 tests the lab processed, 440 were positive, he said. The state also reported an additional 104 new positive cases, bringing its case total to 48,776.
Connecticut reported 83 new cases on Thursday; 127 on Wednesday; 41 on Tuesday; and 162 Friday through Sunday. The state reported three new COVID-19 deaths on Friday, bringing the state's death toll to 4,413.
As of Thursday night, 71 people in Connecticut were hospitalized with COVID-19, down by one from Wednesday, Lamont said.
