It's official: Coachella has been postponed until October because of coronavirus

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It's official: The organizers of the The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival confimed Tuesday night that the California music festival will be postponed from April to October.

Concert promoter Goldenvoice said it will take place on the weekends of Oct. 9 and 16. It was originally scheduled to begin on April 10.

Goldenvoice also said the country music festival Stagecoach, scheduled for April 24-26 will be postponed until Oct. 23-25.

Journalist Yashar Ali first reported Monday night that Coachella was postponed.

"At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities," Goldenvoice's statement read, "we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns. While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials."

The statement continued, "Coachella will now take place on Oct. 9, 10 and 11 and Oct. 16, 17 and 18, 2020. Stagecoach will take place on Oct. 23, 24 and 25, 2020. All purchases for the April dates will be honored for the rescheduled October dates. Purchasers will be notified by Friday, March 13, on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend."

The entertainment industry is reeling from the outbreak of coronavirus: Pearl Jam has postponed the first leg of its 2020 tour and "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" will reportedly tape without live studio audiences.

Pearl Jam said in a statement, "Unfortunately, communing in large groups is a huge part of what we do as a band and the tour we've been busy planning for months is now in jeopardy… We have and will always keep the safety and well-being of our supporters as top priority."

The statement continued, "So it is with deep frustration and regret that we are forced to make this most unfortunate of announcements… This scheduled first leg of our PJ/Gigaton tour will need to be postponed and shows rescheduled for a later date."

"Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" will not tape with live studio audiences for the foreseeable future, beginning on Tuesday, according to multiple outlets.

Sony, which produces the shows, has not commented yet. Both shows are also slated to film until mid-April.
