NEWARK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Phil Murphy reported 3,361 new positive cases on Tuesday, bringing the statewide total to 44,416. Murphy also reported that another 232 of New Jersey residents died of coronavirus related complications, bringing our statewide total to 1,232.

He also announced that he connected with the governors of New York and Connecticut to discuss a regional approach to testing, tracking, and the reopening of businesses and schools, and potentially a regional approach to mobilizing resources for when the virus comes back.

Murphy signed an Executive Order waiving the requirements for the 2019-2020 school year for eighth and twelfth grade students due to coronavirus.

"This will ensure that no student is left behind or unduly penalized due to these extraordinary circumstances," he said.

New Jersey health officials announced Monday that there were an additional 3,500 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the state total to 41,090.

They also reported that deaths due to coronavirus climbed by 86 to 1,003 from 917.

"This means that our efforts to flatten the curve are starting to pay off," Gov Phil Murphy said Monday.

He also urged residents to stay home and added that if current social distancing practices continue, the state can get through the peak with the hospital beds that are being prepared.

The most cases are in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties, respectively.

Bergen County confirmed  6,862 positive cases and 200 deaths on Monday.
