Costco limits meat purchases to 3 items for members amid outbreak

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Costco announced on Monday that it will be limiting the amount of meat that members can purchase due to the nationwide outbreak at processing plants.

Fresh meat purchases including beef, pork and poultry are now temporarily limited to three items according to Costco's website.


A CDC report released Friday stated that over 4,900 workers at meat and poultry processing facilities have tested positive for coronavirus including 20 deaths.

Many plants are operating at half capacity since so many employees staying home because they are sick or worried about getting sick, according to Mark Lauritsen, who directs the meatpackers division at the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

Additionally, all customers and employees will be required to wear face coverings.

On Monday Costco stores returned to its regular business hours but locations such as Brooklyn will continue to offer senior shopping hours in the morning on Monday through Friday.
