Cuomo announced Thursday that Central New York is now one of five regions eligible to begin reopening on Friday. The Mohawk Valley, the Southern Tier, the Finger Lakes region and the North Country region all previously met criteria to begin reopening.
New York City, Long Island, Rockland, Westchester and the Hudson Valley are among the areas that will continue to have the stay-at-home order in place.
Cuomo said this week that New York City has yet to meet three criteria, while Long Island and the Mid-Hudson Valley still have to meet two.
The governor also said he spoke with President Donald Trump about state funding issues Thursday morning, adding that Trump agreed to expedite $3.9 billion in funding to the MTA.
In a tweet Thursday morning, Trump said the MTA would be receiving the $3.9 billion via the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES).
"The president cut red tape and actually sent the first installment today," the governor said.
As of Thursday, New York state was tracking 110 cases of an inflammatory, Kawasaki-like illness that has been affecting children and may be linked to COVID-19, Cuomo said during his daily briefing. Sixteen other states and six European countries are also reporting cases, he said.
The state has lost three children to the illness — a 5-year old boy, a 7-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl.
