NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced he would extend the eviction moratorium for New Yorkers through Jan 2021 due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

It was extended to Jan. 1, 2021, according to the governor.
"No one is going to get evicted because of COVID," he added.
"The State moratorium on COVID-related residential evictions will be extended until January 1, 2021," Cuomo wrote on Twitter. "We must do all we can to provide stability to New Yorkers who are struggling financially so they will not be forced from their homes as a result of COVID."
The Tenant Safe Harbor Act prohibits courts from ever residential tenants who experienced financial hardship for non-payment of rent during the coronavirus period.Cuomo first announced a State moratorium on residential and commercial evictions in March to ensure no tenant was evicted during the height of the public health emergency.
