NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday night said it was news to him that the Democratic National Convention was kicking off.
When asked by NY1's Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" why he wasn't asked to speak at the DNC, de Blasio responded, "I really didn’t even know the convention was coming up this week, is the truth."
De Blasio, a Democrat who had a short-lived run for the party's presidential ticket in the spring, said he's been too busy with local affairs to pay attention to other matters.
"We have just extraordinary challenges we’re working on right here, keep this health situation good, get ready for schools, try and reopen our economy," he said. "Politics is not my focus right now."
The mayor also said that he hadn't been asked to campaign for Biden, but added, "I would do anything they need, if they need anything ... But right now, again, I’ve got a pretty profound mission right here, focusing on the health and safety of New Yorkers. That’s where I’m going to be."
De Blasio was also left out of a video montage that aired Monday night at the DNC, largely consisting of previous Democratic presidential hopefuls. He wasn't the only one left out, though: Pete Buttigieg, Mike Bloomberg, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders were also missing from the video.
