NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Mayor de Blasio joined Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Elmo and a bunch of their Muppet buddies on Wednesday for a ceremony officially changing the name of a Manhattan intersection to Sesame Street.
Broadway and 63rd Street are now named after the children’s show as part of its golden anniversary.
“This important occasion is brought to you by the number 50,” de Blasio said. “Fifty years of extraordinary programming. Fifty years of making people’s lives better. Fifty years of helping children believe in themselves”
The intersection is right in front of the building where the Sesame Workshop offices are located.
After the new sign was unveiled, the mayor joined Big Bird and the others in singing the show's theme song, "Sunny Days."
