NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio and city officials unveiled the city's plan for half price MetroCards on Friday.
De Blasio said those receiving public assistance will be first to get the Fair Fares cards followed by people receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.
The news conference took place a day after the mayor faced tough questions about why the program for low-income New Yorkers hadn't begun.
We are going to fight for the program that was promised to New Yorkers six months ago.

A MetroCard should open up our City. It shouldn't be a barrier, and neither should the City.@CSSNYorg @RidersNY
In June, 800,000 low-income New Yorkers were promised the cards that were supposed to roll out Jan. 1.
