NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Robert De Niro has taken a major financial hit because of the coronavirus pandemic, the actor revealed in his divorce case after he cut his estranged wife's credit card limit in half.
The revelation was made by De Niro in a Skype court appearance as his estranged wife, Grace Hightower, sought an emergency order that would raise her credit card limit, the New York Post's Page Six reported.
Hightower claims De Niro unfairly slashed her $100,000 allowance down to $50,000—but lawyers for the actor say the credit limit was dropped because he's suffering financially due to the pandemic.
De Niro lawyer Caroline Krauss said the actor's restaurant chain Nobu and Greenwich Hotel have seen little business because of the coronavirus, with Nobu losing millions of dollars in April and May alone.
The former couple's prenuptial agreement dictated that Hightower would get $1 million each year from De Niro—if he was making $15 million or more in income. However, Krauss said De Niro "is going to be lucky if he makes $7.5 million this year."
De Niro and Hightower split in November 2018 after 21 years of marriage.
