NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates was arrested in Queens after police say he refused to pay a $32 cab fare Saturday morning and then attacked a police sergeant before being subdued with a Taser.
Bates, 25, went peacefully with officers who were called to the Hampton Inn hotel in East Elmhurst, but cops tell 1010 WINS he got hostile after arriving at the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights, where he allegedly refused to be finger-printed and then slugged a sergeant who was trying to get him to calm down.
The sergeant was hit so hard in the face that he has a concussion and needed three stitches on his left eye, authorities say.
Bates had to be hit with a Taser in order to be subdued, according to the Queens DA.
He was charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, theft of services and resisting arrest. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted, according to prosecutors.
He has also been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Bates was drafted by the Colts in 2016 and practiced with the Giants and Patriots before getting a job with the Lions.
He is a backup who only logged one tackle for Detroit this season, according to the team's website.
