NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- You are given the task to choose one photo to share with the world that tells your story as a Latinx. Which would you choose? What would your caption say? What story do you feel is so important, you need to share it?

In New York City, Dominican-American Djali Brown-Cepeda has created a digital archive that allows the Latinx community to share these moments. Think of it as an oversized digital photo album.

It is an Instagram account called Nuevayorkinos. It is exactly what it sounds like. Latinx people living within the five boroughs on New York City telling the world what it was like to live in la Gran Manzana (the Big Apple) before 2005.

Djali says creating the account shows people that “no experiences of Latinidad are the same. There are countless and endless experiences and stories and languages and dialects and cultures”. Through Nuevayorkinos, followers can share in those experiences. People share their stories of immigrating to the city from the Dominican Republic, South America and Central America. They share what it was like to raise their families here. There are countless stories from first and second generation family members telling the stories of their parents and grandparents.

When asked how the community has reacted to the account, she says people have embraced it. Djali has received comments from Instagrammers thanking her because they no longer feel alone in their experiences as a Latinx living in New York City.

Djali says she feels “humbled that people feel so compelled to share”.

If you would like to submit a photo to be featured on the Nuevayorkinos Instagram photo album, here is what you need to know:

You can DM Djali on Instagram @Nuevayorkinos or email at hi@nuevayorkinos.com.

Please remember all photos or videos must have been taken before 2005 and within the five boroughs of New York. Make sure you submit names of everyone in the photo and create a caption.
