NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – President Trump attacked director Spike Lee in his second tweet of the morning Monday after the director took a veiled swipe at the president during his acceptance speech at the Academy Awards.
While accepting the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for "BlacKkKlansman," Lee urged people in the audience to "mobilize" for the 2020 election.
"We will have love and wisdom when we regain our humanity. It will be a powerful moment. The 2020 presidential election is around the corner. Let's all mobilize. Let's all be on the right side of history!" he said. "Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let's do the right thing!"
Lee never mentioned Trump by name, but the message was clear.
Trump fired back on Twitter Monday: "Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!"
Lee hadn't responded by early Monday morning.
The Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay was Lee's first ever.
The New York director also made waves Sunday night after appearing to react angrily to the segregation-era road-trip drama "Green Book" winning Best Picture. The movie has been criticized for being outdated and an "inversion" of the 1987 film "Driving Miss Daisy," which won Best Picture.
